My Studies - 2003

The year 2003 may represent a gap in my studies, but it could be seen as the most important year in my studies. It was during this year which I attempted to become a comic publisher by starting a company called Igubu Comics. We attempted to introduce comics into the South African market without understading who they were. That and the combination of a distinct lack of capital resources lead to some very good lessons being learned and ultimate failure.

During this time I sustained myself by working for Mike Scott at Tseng-Scott Technologies. I was employing my networking, hardware and software troubleshooting skills at the various small business clients of Tseng Scott Technologies. In this time I greatly improved my installation and set up abilities in windows 98, XP, 2000 and 2003.

Towards the second half of the year I made my way into the United Kingdom to Manchester City. There I worked for ID Technologies UK. I used my skill base that I had built up by this point to redesign their stock control system. This primary involved converting their Excel based spreadsheet system to the Sage accouting system. After the installation and conversion stage I had to train the staff in using it. I also helped their web designer in setting up the website. This was primarily by creating the basic layout and graphics using Microsoft Frontpage and Adobe Photoshop.

The importance of this year is not reflected in the things that I have mentioned thus far. Instead this was due to a book that I read: The Tao of Physics by Fritjof Capra. This led me to thinking about the world as you are generally wont to do at this point in your life. It also showed me that there is a lot of very accurate descriptions of the world we live in that seem to work so coherently and consistently that I had to learn more. I embarked thus into my study of Physics
